And, We're Off ...

Okay, soooo .... a show of hands please as to how many of you are staring at your empty mantels right this very moment, with that *glazed over* look in your eye, agonizing over how you're going to decorate it for Fall this year?

Well, that was me last week ... actually, even as I took these pictures.  Second guessing ... moving leaf no. 14 to the right just a tad ... tilting one pumpkin just 1/8" more to the left ... you know how it goes!

This is where it stands for now ... I thought I'd share before I change it all over again.

This year, I really wanted to add lots of pops of vibrant orange:

Michael's had just what I was looking for as far as simple, yet colorful branches.  Thankfully, they finally went on sale (40% off).  And, as a side note ... for those of you with smart phones ... did you know that there is an app for Michael's?  You simply load the app and whenever you're at Michael's, open the app, select coupon, and the clerk will scan the barcode appearing on your screen.  It's awesome and saves you from having to look out for coupons in your mail or newspaper or hoping that one of the staff members will be kind enough to give you one!

Baby pumpkins, acorns, leaves and pinecones are having fun all mixed together in this glass apothecary (all of which I had on hand):

I grabbed up this simple platter at Wal-Mart ... love their Better Homes and Gardens seasonal pieces!

Making a return appearance for the 3rd year in a row is the garland I made out of wooden craft beads ... I just couldn't leave it in the storage box until next year:

One of our colorful pumpkins sits comfortably on a "bed" of burlap, tucked in an urn I had on hand, as well:

The one thing that I did splurge on was this pretty Fall artwork that I stumbled up at Tuesday Morning.  It was just what I was looking for to serve as a focal point.

Annnnd, down below, I found this sweet ladderback chair at a local consignment shop for $10(!), and I didn't even have to paint it.  Will I sit on it?  Um, probably not because the chair will crumble beneath me, BUT, it serves as the perfect spot to rest a couple of seasonal pillows, pumpkin and throw:

Speaking of pumpkins, I knew I wanted to add a few more in a basket to the hearth, but, nothing I had on hand was large enough.  Of course, Home Goods came to the rescue ... isn't this a fun, metal basket?  Love the vintage feel and burlap liner!

And, there you have it.  I do love our little Fall mantel for now ... especially the ambiance the lights give off in the evening:

I can't wait to see everyone else's mantels!

Some sunshine & a cup of tea...

...to all the lovely readers of Rang Decor.
It's been a month since we moved from Bangalore. I understand Labour Day here in the US marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall.

As I type in the words on my post I can see a shower of leaves gently glide down trees, landing softly on grass that is much duller than before. There seems to be some kind of quickened activity among the squirrels, chipmunks, and birds of different kinds that I am yet to identify.

I picked up some bright sunflowers from the Minneapolis Farmer's market.

After clicking I realized that it was so similar to this shot which I clicked back in Bangalore.

Everything seems different yet somehow similar:-)

Have a great day everyone. Promise to be back soon!

Lantern Love!

I see lanterns everywhere, but yet I don't have one! So it became my quest to find one that I could display, play with and love.

In came this beauty...

Actually there were two for the price, but I decided to paint the large lantern's roof with checks...

You know, give it more personality...

But that is not the whole story. The large one came damaged with the door glass broken. So the

Snippets of Fall

Well, it's official ... summer went by *way* too quickly!  I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.  A big group of about 35 of us went camping ... and, by camping, I mean either in RVs, Campers or, in our case, an air conditioned cabin.  We had such a great time!

Now that September is here, Fall decorating is in full swing ... bright shades of orange are taking over!

with peeks of white pumpkins here and there ...

and of course, a few feathers ...

I've done something different with my annual Fall family tree!

Whimsical subway art peeking through ...

All the while remembering what the season (and every day) is about:

I'll be back to share more as soon as the tweaking is done ... look forward to seeing your touches of Fall!

Thanks for stopping by,

Wall Makeover : Wall With Personal Touch

This is the very first makeover of my place that I started from foyer. Come on and first have a look at before and after of the entrance.

Wall_1

What a wonderful difference. I am totally loving it. Images are not doing justice though :-(
Now the story of this wall transformation goes like this.........

Wall_2

In my home I want everything with my personal touch or I can say everything made by or done by me. I am on way to fill colors in my home (my blank canvas) and I started from foyer. First I thought of stenciling the wall and one more idea was to draw a free hand design. So just for a rough idea I came up with these two images. Sent these pics to my sister and she gave me go ahead with freehand design.

Wall_3

I wanted the color of wall to be bright as the entrance to my home is little cozy and dark. I chose lot of bright colors and then zeroed in on this mango yellow. My li'l one was ready to lend his helping hand for sanding, priming, painting and designing the wall. 4 Yr old and did it so well that I was just amazed to see everything he has done. Kids these days are very smart :-)

Wall_4

Then I drew freehand design on the wall and started filling brown color to it.

Wall_5

Though it was freehand design I wanted to give it a look of stencil. For Lotus I was confused between white and red color. White looked better..........

Wall_6

Steps involve in making leaves..........

Wall_7

Here's a look after filling color but something was missing........

Wall_8

Filled golden color in leaves veins and it looked perfect.

Here is the completed wall ....looking bright and beautiful.......but still something is missing......

Wall_10

Idea clicked and I'm ready with my weapons and lil' one is busy clicking progress of the work.

Wall_11

Here comes the complete look. Look that gave me full satisfaction. It turned out far more better than my imagination. And here I wanted to let all my friends know that this sunburst mirror is also my creation and I created it in only 3hrs because I was in hurry to complete this wall as soon as possible (Sometimes I become so impatient).

Wall_12

It feels great, wonderful, amazing when you see your own creations everywhere around your dwelling.

Wall_13

This wall is so me. Everything on this wall describes me. Sometimes a just sit and keep admiring the beauty of this wall....crazy me ;)

A Simple Project

Earlier this summer, I found this pretty *vintage* planter at TJMaxx.  While the color was a lovely light shade of lime, I'm afraid it just wasn't working for me, BUT, the price was right, and I knew that I could have a bit of fun with it.

Finally, this past weekend, I got to play with it!  Out came my sample jars of CeCe Caldwell's Seattle Mist, AS Old White and AS Pure White.  I then chose a simple, French image from the fabulous Graphics Fairy, and, once the paint was dry, transferred the image to the front of the planter.  Of course, I then had to rough it up a bit after it dried with fine sandpaper:

Here is the AFTER!  I added a little burlap, pinecones and few seasonal picks to create a fun, Fall arrangment, which now sits on our dry bar!

Total cost for this project was $0.00(!), as I had everything I needed on hand!  Aren't those the best kind?

Thanks for stopping by!
