Home Tour: Ruma Ghosh

Many of my readers wanted me to showcase beautiful ethnic Indian homes in my blog. So today I am showcasing a very beautiful eclectic home of Ruma Ghosh. You must have seen an image of this home earlier in my Youtube video: Yeh Mera Ghar. Now lets take a tour of this soulful home without any delay. 

In Ruma's own words...

"At present, we live in a 5000sq ft penthouse in Greater Noida. 
I guess people from North-east have some aesthetic DNA, and I am no different. I say so because if you travel through the states of North-east you will find very few houses which do not have flower plants lining their front. You will find blood red begonias growing out of rusted tins & jars yet placed beautifully in front of a thatched house. Its a common sight to see local forest orchids hanging out of trees or stumps of a tree adorning houses in quaint little villages of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam to name a few". 

Below is the image of her living room. The painting in the background depicts The Pushkar Mela done by her friend, Sagarika Sen.

"I get inspiration from all sorts of things, it could be a distressed old wooden bench a queer looking pot or a beautiful plant. To me it is immaterial whether I am living in a rented accommodation or a place of my own, the house which shelters me and my family of three boys and a wonderful husband from wind, rain and scorching sun has to be loved and taken care of. Decorating my home is my way of saying " I love you Home".

In below image vintage "Time" Magazines' cover page covers wall in the dining room, photo frame kept near table lamp was a DIY project by one of my sons. I immortalized it by putting a toddler snap of my husband, Arnab & the painting in the last is wedding gift from a very dear friend, painter who is quite a household name in Singapore now. This is one of her initial paintings when she had just started.

Her love for paintings and framed pictures is clearly visible in all these images.

"Born a midst the pristine green and gentle rolling hills of a tea garden I guess my first vision through the windows of our bungalow was of the well manicured and lovingly laid garden of my mother. Those days furniture were minimalist mostly consists of cane and other beautiful woods procured locally. However, even without the designer furniture,at a glance everything around us was balanced and beautiful. I guess that laid the foundation of my love for decorating home".

"Flowers that I have grown in different point of time".

Marriage boosted this feeling as my hubby Arnab is blessed with a keen sense of art and does a neat job of painting and and fixing a lot of my stuff at home. As luck would have we had to shift home many a times and together we have always ended up creating new look for all the places that we have lived in. I guess that too helped in coming up with new ideas.

Feed Sack Clothes Pin Holder

I love everything about our country India. The food, people, festivals, different languages, various art forms and most importantly beautifully done homes that emanate warmth. Inspiring Eminent Artist: Yulia Brodskaya

 Dear readers I am back after a short vacation. Hope you all had wonderful Diwali, mine was great too. 

Today I am featuring a Paper artist who is joining us all the way from Russia. She is blessed, enjoys doing paper quilling in her own unique and innovative way and her work is mind blowing. You must have seen lot of paper quilling work earlier but, this is something extra ordinary and very innovative. Dear readers sit back, relax and enjoy reading about this wonderful artist-  

Yulia Brodskaya, is a Russian paper artist and illustrator. She uses simple materials like paper, scissor and glue and turn them into something mesmerizing and out of the world creations. She started working as a graphic designer and illustrator in 2006, however she left her job to follow her heart, her passion for paper art: "Paper always held a special fascination for me. I've tried many different methods and techniques of working with it, until I found the way that has turned out to be 'the one' for me: now I draw with paper instead of on it".

Her work reflects hard work, passion and dedication. Have a look of her wonderful art work below. How carefully and neatly she places the paper stripes to create a masterpiece. I loved the intricacy of her work. 

Isn't this something extra ordinary and beyond imagination.

She has earned international reputation and has worked with many big names. Below is one more beautiful creation by Yulia. She has a vast collection of  Quilling typography too.

I loved the way she places different kind of quilling patterns and pulls off everything so beautifully. Look at this quilling bird, such brilliant use of vibrant colours and unique patterns. 

Yulia's artwork is outstanding and one of its kind. She creates unique pieces and has distinct style. I was in awe when I saw this tropical fish. The swirls and twirls are so eye catching.

 Yulia's each and every creation speaks a thousand words. She is such a passionate and dedicated artist. She is invited at various design conferences and design schools around the world to speak about design and art.

Her artwork is owned by Oprah Winfrey too and why I am not surprised!! Her clients list has many big names. Her work has been featured in many books.  

She has created theme for Google chrome too. Recognize this Google Chrome bird!!

Here is a surfing-themed cover art for the FahThai, an in-flight magazine she designed for Bangkok Airways.
