$50 Changes!

You are in for a real treat!

I am so excited to show you all the changes and you will see the domino effect of what $50 did in my home.

I will entice you to stay awhile by showing you the final outcome!

Okay, here is the back story...I went to an auction and spent $50 on this 6 1/2 foot buffet!

No, I didn't realize that it was that big!

It had so much character but had seen

A story of TWO Night Stands

The story of these

 two night stands

 is quite weird.

Initially, the one on the right was purchased at a garage sale. I can't keep these in my mall booth, they sell fast, but I was going to paint this one for my daughter's bedroom in her new house. This is what it looked like when I got it...

Before I even got a chance to paint it, I happened upon a thrift store giving away

Hepplewhite ShieldBack Chairs

Oh how ugly and worn out these chairs came into my possession!

But I have given it away on what I did to them, haven't I?

I didn't want to paint them because...

These chairs are Antique Hepplewhite Shield-back solid mahogany chairs!

But, I didn't want to strip them and one of the chairs had a broken shield back and I knew I couldn't fix it to where it wouldn't be noticed with

Birthday Honey-Do's

I recently had a birthday (Sept. 3) and the best part was not the gifts but what my hubby said to me...

"Hon, I'm all yours today!"

I knew that meant what whatever I wanted him to do, he would. And he knew that I had some projects in mind. You see, I am afraid of the table saw and needed him to cut some wood for me. I also wanted to beef up a fireplace mantel. So let's start with that!

We had

$1 Bookcase!

This is what happened when I bought a $1 u-g-l-y bookcase...

 It started out like this...

And ended up like this...

Perfect for using in my antique mall booth for the smalls for sale...and didn't cost much! Got the rug too at auction and it fits my booth exactly and makes it looks so much nicer. It's all good!!!

Lantern Love!

I see lanterns everywhere, but yet I don't have one! So it became my quest to find one that I could display, play with and love.

In came this beauty...

Actually there were two for the price, but I decided to paint the large lantern's roof with checks...

You know, give it more personality...

But that is not the whole story. The large one came damaged with the door glass broken. So the

My addiction to Furniture!

I am standing up and admitting that I have an addiction! But I am really sitting down.

An addiction to abused, beaten, broken and old furniture! Especially old stuff because it's usually all wood.

I don't need anymore.

I don't really want anymore. Um, maybe...

But, I can't help myself when I know what it could look like and keep it out of the landfill.

This is a good case in point. It

Oh so French End Tables!

Do you love the French Look as much as I do?

Do you also love the look of a finished piece after it was painted and loved with Chalk Paint?

So do I! That brings me to these to end tables...

I picked these two tables up at a garage sale because they just spoke to me. They said, "Take me home and show me how to look lovely in French Frocks!" I listened and I heard. So out came the

Fern Stand Table

I found a rather yucky fern stand with great lines and a cheap price...

$1,

so I knew that I couldn't pass it up.

This is the before picture...

Yucky right? Well, I did some painting & creating and this is the shabby outcome of my efforts!

Now, it's just a sweet bedside lamp table. After a new top, I painted black and white check on the inside only of the legs and added swirls

Hutch Decor 101-107

Before I show you how I have my hutch displayed currently, let's go down memory lane...shall we?

First came the hutch, found at a thrift store. Then I painted it to lighten and freshen it up. I fell in love!

I used Annie Sloan Old White and Old Ochre Chalk Paint.

Now let's look at the transformations in decor on the hutch...

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Do people not have vision? Or do they just not like to do the work?

I don't know which, but I had picked up an antique oval mirror at a garage sale and basically did nothing to it, but put it in my antique mall booth.

No one wanted it after months of being displayed and a priced decline.

That told me that I needed to bring it home and give it some love! Here is the before

Old Settee Breathes New Life!

You probably didn't even miss me, but we have been gone to Vegas Baby!

If you are ever going and can catch a show, you should see Terry Fator! He won America's Got Talent in 2008 and puts on a really well done and funny show.

On with the Settee project...

Before we left, I was working like crazy on our new MUD ROOM that I will show you later, however for now, I will show you how I

Roses, Paint-by-Number!

I picked these, sweetly painted lovelies, up at an estate sale. I have not seen Paint-by-Number art in a long time and thought these were very well done.

They would have started out something like these kits...
I don't even know if you can buy these any longer, but you would get the paints and a brush and just paint each area by the number that coordinated with the number on the board and paint

Header Love AND New Look for My Blog!

I found another old header that was completely intact!

And I fell in love.

Here it is after I had my young and cute, handy dandy handyman put trim on the bottom and sides to hide the construction. A lot of people would have left it as is, but I wanted to refine it a bit.
A bit of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and both her dark and clear waxes later...

Next, I added a saying that truly is

Just the cutest birdcage chandy!

I simply made the cutest birdcage chandelier! And I hope that someone loves it as much as me since it's for sale in my antique mall booth.

 Notice the shadow! How fun...
 I didn't forget the bling...crystals!

Map Vignette!

I am so taken with all the uses of maps available for viewing online. If you can think it, it can be done.

I had a globe and a table that needed some creativity. They were both picked up at garage sales.

Before

This is not the exact globe but another one that I have.
I used an old Illinois map for the table after painting the table with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I then wiped stain on the

Cute cloche!

This is nothing new, just too cute.

Everyone has seen these all over the place, at garage sales and thrift stores, etc.

They start out life as a cheese holder...

Marrying a base of some kind to the wood round and in my case, wooden candle sticks from a garage sale. Painting it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint because it's so easy to work with...a little distressing and finishing and you

Beaded Spoon Tassels

A new twist on what to do with old silver spoons.

I made Painted, Beaded, Tassel Decor out of them.

They are fun and unique.

This is not a tutorial

but instead, the process

that I went through to get to the final product.

First, I took an old silver spoon (I find these for pennies at garage sales and thrift stores)...I drilled tiny holes around the edge of the spoon and painted it (them)

Check Mark!

who knew that my hutch would be so much fun to decorate and I change it a lot. Here is its look for winter with my new Royal Stafford checked plates and Fitz and Floyd snowman plates!

I hand painted the pitcher at a local pottery place. And the checked spoon is a bookmark that I made from an old flattened spoon, hand painted and bowed.

So that's another check mark off my list for 2012!

My Favorite Projects of 2011

I really can't believe how many projects that I completed in 2011, mostly because of this blog. I feel the need to continually show you something new and different that I have made or transformed. Later, you can check out my Before & Afters tab at the top of my blog page.

I decided to look back at what I have done, and pick my 12 favorite ones and tell you why...in no particular order.
