DIY: How To Paint Plastic Container

I have recycled so many plastic food containers and turned them into beautiful and useful planters and brush/pen holders. All my readers liked them so much that they wanted me to share the tutorial on how to paint a plastic food container. So sharing it today!!

Supplies:
Plastic container (That you want to recycle)
Acrylic Colors
Paint Brush
Rag
Varnish

Steps:
1). The very first step is to wash and clean the container. It should be free from dust, oil or grease.

I cut the edge of container in pattern. Have a look....

2). Next apply either water based primer or white acrylic color on the container. Do not worry if the paint doesn't spread evenly on the container's surface as you will going to give a second coat of primer. Let it dry for atleast 30-40 mins. Give another coat of primer and then again let it dry for 30 mins.

3). Now paint the container in your choice of color. Remember do not mix excess of water or else color wouldn't spread properly.

Giving a second coat of color is always a good idea. As it gives a good finish.

4). Now its turn to make pattern or motifs of your choice. You can use acrylic/pearl/shimmer or enamel paint. I used pearl colors and this time it's my take on 'Gond Art'. I truly loved painting it. Its simple and beautiful...just lines and dots and it is done.

Painting these two fishes took one hour. Painstaking isn't it.......!! I was so meticulously filling the lines and dots in the fishes that I even held my breath so my hand wouldn't move or shake (and I usually do that :)))

5). Now that you are done with art on the pot let it dry for 2-3 hrs and then apply protective coat of varnish.
It will give shine to the pot and protect it as well. Here is my complete pot with Gond Art on it. How do you find it.

It's adorning my dining table and looks fabulous there.

A closer look. Lots of fishes there :)))

A New Year and a glimpse...

Wishing readers of Rang Decor a very Happy New Year, 2014. A little late but nevertheless full of happiness and colours to fill your lives!

We had a beautiful winter break in sunny and warm Mexico. We visited Puebla, Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende. It was a wonderful experience to walk the streets soaking in the history, culture and colours of this beautiful country which in many ways reminded me of home, India.

So much to share with all of you, while I get my posts ready, here is a glimpse of our home here in Minnesota. We live in a house built in the 1960's. It still reflects our Indian roots and deep love for the art and crafts of India but will also take on global influences as result of our present residence and travels. Loads of interesting projects are planned for it and will be sharing the progress as we go ahead.

Wishing all of you loads of beauty in your lives!

Have a great weekend!

Winter Plate Banner

Different!

That is what I like to do...

Something different...

Not the same ol' thing!

I have made banners for Spring...

I have made banners for Summer...

I have made banners for Autumn...

Now it was time to make a banner for Winter...

But that's when I decided to be different. It was still going to act like a banner but be a singular piece! What?

Great Ways To Have A Beautiful Home

Love makes our House a Home and to turn Home into a Beautiful Home you need to follow these simple tips.
1. The very first thing to start with is unclutter, clear the clutter and your space will look brighter and well arranged. Clutter in any room makes it appear messy and small. Clearing the clutter and placing things in proper way makes a room look bigger and brighter.
2. The easiest way to make your home look new, fresh and beautiful in record time is rearranging the furniture. Place furniture in an unconventional way to give a completely new look to a room. Move seating arrangement away from the wall for intimate and cozy seating.
3. Putting slipcovers on furniture make them look new and can change overall appearance of the room.
4. Update curtains and draperies. Choose the right color according to theme and furniture in the room.
5. Changing a theme or style of the decor in a particular room is also an easiest and quick way to cheer up the space.
6. Change the pictures and artwork all around your place. Try matching either color or theme of the paintings. Changing accessories can make a lot of difference. Its a quick and easy way to decorate your space.
7. Add texture and pattern to a room by placing some nice area rug or beautiful cushions. It instantly lift the lost charm of a room.
8. Painting just one wall in a room certainly adds a lot of character and drama to the place. Put up some nice artwork and you are done.
9. Sometimes changing indoor plants can also do the trick. Replace palm with fern or some flowering plant or vice versa and see the difference.
10. One more easy and quirky way to decorate home is give those old lampshades a new look by painting them or adding nice lace to them.

When my husband and I bought an apartment I was so filled with great enthusiasm to give my home a beautiful and pleasing look with lot of personal touch. Inspiring Eminent Artist: Smita Bakshi

So this is the first post of new year and I wish all my readers a very wonderful and very happy new year. I am starting this year with a very creative artist and art lover Smita BakshiLets meet Smita and know how she rediscovered her lost passion and I am sure you will be inspired. Over to Smita............

First of all I would Like to thanks Disha for featuring my artwork on her blog.  I am so much in love with her creativity.
I am Smita Bakshi an MBA, HR Manager by profession. I am very professional, focused and methodical when it comes to work. I have been doing good in my career. I am married and have a seven year old boy and eventually they are married to my art work now. I have been very creative and art has always been my first love. I started painting when I was ten years.  I remember drawing the diagrams for my friends in their projects. I had made a lot of paintings which still hang at my relative’s, friend’s and my own home. It gives an immense pleasure to have the love and respect gotten from all of them.

Life changed after I finished the school,  all these years I had been so busy that I almost forgot that once I was an art lover.  Last year I had a doctor’s appointment and while waiting for my turn I randomly started sketching and from then it never stopped………

Amazing isn't it

Oh!! I just love these cushions..........

I don’t consider myself an artist. I’m just not comfortable with that word at all. I like to just think of it as pursuing and living a creative life. I am me, a person who creates because it makes my soul happy, centers me and fills me with a sense of self satisfaction and joy. In fact, my husband didn't even know that I could draw until I started SketchiiStudio and so did all of you who are reading about it, take some time out from your busy life and find the “YOU” in Yourself.

About my Art :

SketchiiStudio is my creative space. It makes me happy to have my own space , a dedicated space and filled with the things that inspire me and make me feel good, just like I did.  Creativity makes my soul happy, centers me and fills me with a sense of self satisfaction and joy.

My style of work is primarily figurative and abstract so I mostly do illustrations and abstract art. My art is made very creatively with a lot of detailing. I absolutely adore pure and bright colors and love to challenge god's natural chroma and patterns within my imagination. I use ink, water color and acrylics on paper and canvas mostly. I have promised myself to have at least one artwork added every fortnight. So stay tuned and visit my page - SketchiiStudioI have recently opened my shop.

Thank you so much Smita for joining us. Wish you great success ahead!!
Here are some links where you can get in touch with Smita and check out her amazing creations.
