Pentas In My Garden

Two years back Pentas was a beautiful addition in my balcony garden and then last year 

I don't know what went wrong and it died.

This year I saw few saplings in different pots and  I was super excited to see them back in my garden so I let them grow. When they bloomed I was totally surprised because earlier I had only hot pink Pentas but now they are blooming in three colors.

Hot pink, soft pink and white Pentas.....triple bonanza yay!!! All thanks to butterflies and tiny birds who keep visiting my garden. Here is the hot pink one........

and here is soft pink Pentas a lovely surprise :)

and here is combo of pink..........adding beauty to my garden that has unintentionally turned into an almost  pink garden with pink Bougainvillea, pink Allamanda, pink Petunia and of-course pink Pentas.

and who said white is boring. Look at this looks like stars are making their presence in my garden :) Ahh at least something is other than pink in my small garden now.

and here all the three varieties of Pentas (Pentas because they have five petals). They attract butterflies and hummingbirds too. I have seen hummingbird playing with my flowers a few times in my garden. I am so happy and excited that they are back again and I'll get to see butterflies and hummingbirds again :)

Our Fall Kitchen ...

Greetings, friends!

Okay, so if I don't do any other decorating for Fall in our kitchen, the one thing that I'll always incorporate is our Fall family tree!

In years' past, we've pulled out one of our big ol' Christmas trees for the Fall family tree, but, last year and again this year, I've opted for a simple tree on our island, full of faux branches with lights and real branches that I snagged from the woods:

This is one of my favorite "trees" because I love adding pictures of years gone by (such as this one of my younger sister modeling a new purse for my grandparents and great aunts (all but one who have since passed) ...

a few glittery ornaments and familial sayings ...

and, moments that I'll never forget ... such as the moment I met my son for the first time (please pass the tissues)!  

I love being surrounded by family and friends this time of year!

And, because of the saying the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree," I thought it only fitting (and corny at the same time) to add a few faux apples beside our tree (har har)!  But, because I've had these faux apples a few years, the acrylic overlay was starting to crack a bit ... thanks to Ruthie's fun and easy project at Sugarpie Farmhouse, my plain, cracking apples got a new look!  I fancied them up by following her tutorial of dipping them in mod podge, mixed with cinnamon paint (to resemble caramel) and then coating them with corn cob liner (to resemble sweet nuts)!

Yummy!

On the other counters, I chose to keep it pretty simple ... just adding faux pumpkins to one of our canisters ... tying seasonal ribbons around the tops of the canisters ... and, layering a cute Roo tray behind them:

A cute "cow" print (from Home Goods), leaf plate and pumpkin nestled in raffia help out this little vignette:

Annnd, to add a bit of color to our plain lampshade, I wrapped leaf garland (that I had on hand) around the top of the shade!

And, with leftover orange ribbon, I added a bit of it to our shelves to give them a little punch of Fall, too!

Pretty pumpkin platters (from Home Goods), faux pumpkins, leaf garland and wheat help to "Fallify" the soffit a bit:

Of course I had to add string lights into the garland, too, for a little bit o' Fall glooow:

Did you happen to notice the cute Roo rug?  I spotted it at Tuesday Morning and just had to grab it!

And, thanks to a yummy "Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin" candle (from Bath and Body Works), our kitchen "smells" like Fall, too!

What to do with veneer missing from furniture?


My options are: 

1. I could ignore and just paint right over the missing veneer hoping to camouflage the area.

2. I could fill in the the space of the missing veneer with wood filler then paint the whole piece.


 3. I could strip all the veneer off and sand it all down and then paint, depending on how much veneer is missing.

Coppre presents Vintage Inspirations 2013 Festive Collection.

This festive season, Coppre brings to you a stunning collection: Vintage Inspirations 2013 Festive Collection.

Yesteryears are enchanting.

As these beautiful lights suggest they are inspired by traditional metalware.

Rang Decor readers might recall this post introducing Coppre.

Coppre is a creative collaboration between the 'Tambat' craftsmen in Maharashtra and Rashmi Ranade, a product designer from Industrial Design Centre, IIT Powai and Sir JJ School of Architecture. 
They are supported by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) and Forbes Marshall in this social enterprise initiative.
Coppre works with the craftspeople, by modernizing their products for contemporary sensibilities thereby making the old relevant in the new. 

In the current series, Vintage Inspirations 2013, Rashmi Ranade draws from influences of a trunkful of antique brass & copper utensils, puja accessories brought to India by her friend's grand mother during partition, from erstwhile East Pakistan during partition and other objects of yore.  

The product range consists of Tableware and Serveware including Platters, Nut Bowls and Floaters.

Spartan Platter...

The Spartan Platter has been rendered with a dull finish and a new etching pattern. It draws inspiration from the rustic yet elegant charm of design from yesteryears. It exudes copper’s inherent warmth and simplicity. 

It makes for an ideal fruit platter. Comes in two sizes.

Resonance Floater...

The Resonance Floater is an auditory ode to an object used in daily worship in many homes across South East Asia. It has been made relevant to contemporary utilitarian needs by converting it to a Floater.

It can be used as tableware when hosting friends and family or to float candles and flowers when the sun goes down. Comes in two sizes – large and small.

Treasure Box...

The Treasure Box is a remake of a ‘Daaginache Dabba’ when translated from Marathi, it means Box for Jewelry or Jewelry box. The seams and contours are traditional; the etches and bright finish render it a contemporary look. 
House your favorite jewelry or use it for storing stationary at your office desk. 

Nut Bowls...

The Pebble & Circular Nut Bowls have a simple, circular contour and its handles draw inspiration from the brass modak maker (a traditional Indian dish of sweet, steamed dumplings). It is a reminder of the charm and beauty of the designs of cookware from ancient India.

It has multiple uses and could be used as tableware for serving nuts and also to float candles and flower petals. 

Songbird Platter...

The Songbird Platter is reminiscent of a design era that drew inspiration from nature. It is also an ode to the ‘Coppersmith Barbet’, known for its call, likened to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer. It is known to adapt fairly well to changes in its habitat, just like our craftspeople. 

Can be used as tableware when hosting friends and family or as an organiser to keep coins, trinkets or stationary items.

Fish Platter...

The Fish Platter is reminiscent of a time when craft designs drew inspiration from nature alone. 

The Heirloom Box...

The Heirloom Box is an antique affair both in design and utility. Jewelry boxes from another era have inspired it. 

It has been aptly christened “The Heirloom Box’ as it sturdy and can be passed on over generations. 

House your favorite jewelry or use it for storing stationary at your office desk.
