DIY: Newspaper Wind Chime

Don't miss any update from my blog like my Facebook Page(Click Here)

Today I am posting DIY after a long time. It's again my favorite newspaper craft.
This time I made wind chime from newspaper.

Lets start:
First step of making newspaper sticks/rolls you can find by clicking here. Make 20-22 sticks.
1. Now that you are ready with fair amount of sticks with you, take one stick and make a tight coil of it. Make one coil with one paper stick and make total of 12 coils of approx. 1" diameter. Make one larger coil of approx. 4" diameter. Now you have 12 small and one larger coil.
2. Now apply glue on all the sides of the coil with the help of brush.
3. Before glue dries completely place your thumb in the center of the coil and then slowly and gently press it outwards as shown in the image.
4. Repeat step 3 for all the coils. They will be bell shaped now (no. 4) Apply glue once more, let it dry and then prime it. You can paint them in your choice of color at this stage or can do so later.

5. Now take out some old magazines and make paper beads in 2-3 different sizes and shapes. You can find tutorial here. I made 1" and 1/2" paper beads. Red, yellow and orange in colour. You will need some jewelry making tools too like flat nose pliers, cutter, scissors, nylon cord and ghungroo (jingelling bells).

 6. Now make a knot at one end of the nylon cord and thread a ghungroo and then long bead.
7. Now thread a small bell.
8. Thread more beads so that it is not more than 2".
9. Now with the help of needle attach this string to the larger bell.

10. Now make another string. Repeat steps 6 and 7. Repeat step 8 but keep in mind every time you need to increase the length of string by 2". make total of 12 such strings and attach them to the large bell at equal distance. It will look like this....

If you want to keep it like this then you can give a coat of varnish at this stage too. But I love it when my hands are smeared with colours so I went ahead and coloured it with acrylic colours. I chose red, orange and yellow. As these colours go well with the paper beads I have used in strings. Let it dry for 4-5 hrs and then give a coat of varnish to make it water proof.
This is how it looks :))) I am super happy with the result.

I went crazy and tried to click it from every possible angle, up, down, right and left ;P

You must be thinking whether it makes sound or not. Yes it does. Whenever gentle breeze passes through, it makes relaxing and soothing sound. As ghungroos are attached at the end of few strings :)
Have you ever made something like this before, please do share here I would love to see it!! If you are seeing it for the first time, I will suggest you try to make one. it's super easy but yes needs lot of patience.

See you soon with a review of my favorite store on my blog.
Till then Reuse, Recycle and Stay Creative!!Happy Weekend!!

My Hand Painted Tray!!

An elephant's picture on packing of incense stick caught my fancy
and the moment I saw it I wanted to paint it somewhere.
I painted it on a plastic tray and put all my imagination and creativity to make it look different from what is available easily in the market. How I did it..I chose a bit different color combination, motif and intricate design that reflect true essence of India.

Suzani Elephant Hand Painted Tray

When I started 'Indian Art' series and 'Indian Textile' series on my blog I read a lot about different art forms and textile and was intrigued by the beauty of all art forms and textile around the world. I was determined that I will try my hand on each one of them whether it is art or textile. I have tried art forms like Warli, Madhubani, Gond, Tangle art, Tye-die pattern on terracotta figurine and  now I am trying to paint textile patterns like Ikat, Kilim, Block printing, Kanjivaram and here is one that recently I painted..... Suzani on my elephant. Doesn't it look wonderful. I liked the combination of sienna, pink, black and white.

Suzani Elephant Hand Painted Tray

An year ago I saw a cabinet painted in Suzani pattern and I was inspired to do something like that. So I came up with this idea with my personal touch of course.

I loved the way this tray has turned out. Intricate work that is done with lot of patience.

Pot Full Of Happiness!!

Never miss any update from my blog. Like my Facebook Page click here.
I have a confession.......
Yes I am obsessed with recycling, lotus and Buddha  and this post is combo of recycling and lotus obsession.
My husband had a sudden desire of drinking natural cold water of a clay pot last summer. So we got this black pot but it had some leakage problem so was lying unused. Then one day I just picked it up and without even a proper plan in my mind I just painted it blue. Then it was lying like that for a week because I had no clue about what to do on it.

Then my obsession with lotus came to rescue and I painted a blue lotus on it. It was looking very beautiful and suddenly it has become 'pot full of happiness' :)

Painted Pot

Then bit emptiness was there or something was missing so one pink lotus came to give it company and it was
'sheer happiness'

Pink one became my favorite. Getting dried and getting ready to get a coat of protective layer so that I can use this pot as planter and can keep it outside as well.

Till then you can suggest me a nice and appropriate name for this pot :)

Madubani Painted In Natural Dyes

An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.

Few days ago when I decided to paint the Madhubani art that my sister had drawn for me, an idea sparked in my mind. The idea was to paint the madhubani art in natural dyes to give it a perfect look and feel of ancient art form of India. Here is my artwork.
Madhubani Painting in natural dyes
Here is how I prepared natural dyes:
1 part Turmeric powder+2 part water+ boil = Yellow Color
Leaves (preferably spinach/smooth gourd/beans) + crush and squeeze = Sap Green
1 Part Beet root + 2 Part water + boil = Red color
1 part Blue berries + 2 Part water + boil = Blue color
You can use various flowers and vegetables to get different colors. Once you are ready with your natural dyes you can get more hues by mixing colors. Like mix red and yellow to get orange, mix blue and yellow to get green etc.

My palette of natural colors
I had hard time filling colors in this art as it has very intricate work and I completed it with utmost dedication and lot of patience.

Quick Update!!

It's a quick update on what I am upto.
This is Madhubani that my younger sister drew for me.

Something very special and amazing that I would like to share here is that my sister never heard of Madhubanhi paintings, didn't even know how to make it and then too when I asked her to make one for me she just said yes. You must be wondering here that if she doesn't know Madhubani then why did I asked her to make.
Because I know she can draw very well she is a good painter too, she is an artist at heart who doesn't know much about different art forms but is an excellent artist.

She just googled, stared at some Madhubani paintings, stayed awake till 3:00 AM and next morning I was just surprised and amazed to see what she had come up with. My jaw dropped and eyes popped out when I saw her work.

She made such beautiful Madhubani, I am awestruck to see such intricate work....every detail she gave is beyond excellence. Not sharing complete artwork here as I want to paint it first.

You lovely people...you just stay tuned and I'll be coming up with painted and complete piece of this artwork. Till then you just tell me how do you find the sneak peek of my sister's artwork.

It's Coffee Painting This Time

[If You like what you see here, don't forget to like my Facebook Page, Click Here.]
Let me tell you I am a true tea lover. So coffee just sits unused in my kitchen shelf and get a chance to come out only when some coffee lover guest pays visit :)
Few days ago when it was raining heavily I wanted to brew coffee for me and when I opened the coffee bottle I realized that coffee has gone bad :( I was about to throw it but suddenly my creative side woke up and told me to put it to some use.
I had heard a few times about coffee painting, so decided to give it a try!!

Coffee painting in making........
http://designdecoranddisha.blogspot.in/

I kept drawing few figures on drawing sheet until I got the result exactly the way I wanted. I drew meditating Buddha. Then I diluted coffee and started the mission :)
Here is a result. It turned out beautifully.
