Chandelier Love

Do you have endless love for chandelier's that I have?

I adore so many different styles of chandy's that I just had to make a change!

The first vintage chandelier that I ever purchased was from ebay. I eventually talked my hubby into letting me take down the ceiling fan in the living room and replace it with this lovely old piece...

I really liked it for the most part, but our

Because My Dad Said So!

Meet my dad, Sam ... devoted husband to my sweet and beautiful Mama ... retired dentist ... golf enthusiast ... and, now, apparently, decorator extraordinaire.

For the past few years, whenever Dad has come over ... more often than not, he would look up at our dining room ceiling and say, in his deep southern, instructional voice, "Becca, *when* are you gonna paint that ceiling(?)," OR "you *need* to paint that ceiling ... it's too dark and brings your room down," OR "I see you *still* haven't painted that ceiling!"  Time after time, I've humbly answered (as I'd roll my eyes and nod my head) "I know ... I know, Dad."

Well, this 43 year old gal finally listened!

Before (from last Fall):

AFTER: (Sorry that I'm only showing a snippet for now ... will share more once I replace our ceiling medallion!)

Admittedly, Dad was right!  A lighter ceiling (BM's Maritime White) IS better in here!  I never realized what an effect the gold, metallic ceiling had on the Manchester Tan walls, and how it would cast the darker color down onto the walls.  It seems brighter now ...

In fact, Mr. Roo just might break out in song!

I'm pretty sure that our *faux* orchid has even started to grow:

And, because I just KNOW that Dad is going to want to bring his friends over and show them the influence he has, I added extra seating by bringing in slip covered parsons chairs (that were in our bedroom) to the heads of the table:

Thanks, Dad, for the suggestion (or was that an order) ... I *finally* did as I was told!

Thankfully, Dad approves of the new ceiling and will now enjoy saying "Aren't you glad you *finally* painted that ceiling(?)" over ... and, over again!  And, admittedly, I wonder what he's going to say I need to do next!  LOL

By the way, if you need someone to tell it like it is (or give you advice or instruction that you didn't realize you wanted or needed), I'm sure "Sammie" will be happy to zip on over in my (I mean, HIS) Corvette and share his thoughts!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

I'm off to party here:

Valentine's Day Craft: Quilled Heart

You must have read my earlier post 'Inspiring Eminent Blogger: Suganthi'. She is Quilling Artist and has her unique way of Quilling. I loved all her artwork and instantly fell in love with this art. I tried my hand on Quilling earlier also. I made Quilled flower wreath on Christmas. This time I made Quilled heart as you all know Valentine's Day is just around the corner. This craft is very easy and you can involve your kids also as I did.

Valentine's Day Craft

I made this quilled heart and then added bead hanging inside it. To make quilled heart, take a red quilling stripe and fold it into half. Roll both the ends inwards, one after another using quilling needle and then stick both the coils together.

Valentine's Day Craft

To hang beads inside quilled heart was very simple. Just thread, needle & beads and your quilled heart will look even more cute :)

Valentine's Day Craft

Look at the images and you will be able to understand how to make these cute little hanging quilled heart.

Valentine's Day Craft

Now the next steps is to hang them on a branch.

Valentine's Day Craft

I had this dried branch and I painted it red. All the little heart are now hanging beautifully on a Love Tree.

Valentine's Day Craft

And spreading love..............
Valentine's Day Craft

See....Love is in the air :))

Valentine's Day Craft

Tree is looking lovely but I think it needs something more........

Valentine's Day Craft

I have an idea to make it more lovely, more beautiful........probably will show you in my next post.

Valentine's Day Craft

Till then try making this love tree for your loved ones and don't forget to show me the images.

The REST of Winter decor

I have a lot of decor. That's what I love, that's what I do. After writing many posts on winter decor around the house, I have been left with even more lovelies to show you...

Grab a cup of joe and relax...

These two birds in the lanterns were found among the Christmas decor at Hobby Lobby. They don't look anything like Christmas, were marked Christmas, and I got them 66% off ! Anyway I

The Domino Effect

Isn't it funny how one little purchase can catapult you into a full blown decorating frenzy?  When we bought this secretary (which I transformed from Mahogany stained secretary to "Pure White" - transformation here) ...

(to which I then just added a coat of "Duck Egg" on the back of the inside), I never realized that that little purchase would cause me to go into ADD (Attention *Decorating* Disorder) overload!

You see, because of where we placed the new secretary, that meant I had to find a new home for the buffet that had lived there for a few years.  Glancing around, the only logical place to put it seemed to be in the alcove beside our fireplace.

Once we placed it there, my husband then decided that we needed a larger TV to balance better with the newly added buffet (LOL ... love how he actually tried to use that for his argument).  Actually, we had been planning on replacing it, anyway.

But, because of the new TV, I thought it'd be nice to have more seating in here  ... so, in came the love seat from the sitting room:

Of course, a few pillows *had* to be added:

And, then, as I was sitting at our breakfast table, peering into the great room with its new arrangement, I thought to myself "if only there were enough room to add a sofa table behind the sofa.  I've always wanted to try that, but just never have ... that was, until now!

I grabbed the table that I had recently added to the sitting room and placed it in its new spot.  I then added a basket underneath, which serves as a great place to hide the *not-so-pretty* woofer to the TV's surround bar system:

I kept one of the accent chairs in here ... brought the blue lamp back in (the beautiful lamp my Mom bought me is now in the office) and added another garden seat (from TJMaxx):

This sweet pillow from Home Goods was a fun, inexpensive addition, too!

While I wish our great room was a bit wider, I'm enjoying the cozy feel that this new *decorating frenzy* arrangement brings:

What decorating frenzies have been going on in your house, lately?!

Winter Door Decor!

One of my favorite things to do as my decor constantly changes, is to get out some of my decor that just seems to touch my heart.

Most of the time I don't know why something speaks to me, but if it's really lasting through the years, I feel it must mean that it's these simple pleasures of finding, making and displaying just these certain things is part of what life at Forever

Inspiring Eminent Bloggers: Suganthi

Blogger who is with us today is Suganthi who blogs over at Daydreams. Suganthi is very talented Quilling artist and has been blogging about this art for more than three years now. Her each and every quilling project is so unique and looks masterpiece. You have to see it to believe it.

Welcome Suganthi, I am very excited to have you here on Design Decor & Disha. Please let us know little more about you.
I am a stay at home mother of two teenage boys. I studied to be a computer engineer, after my marriage I started to explore my aptitude for arts and crafts.

When and how you realized your passion about Quilling.
While looking for a tutorial on folding trees website I found a tutorial for a quilled snowflake, I fell in love with quilling that instant, the simplicity of the shapes and the materials used drew me to it. I found even my first pieces being admired and that got me started.

Quilled Floral Pattern
Can you talk about what prompted you to start the blog. In what ways has blogging affected your Quilling.
Me and my son one day in December  2009 just started a blog and posted my first two works just for fun, since starting a blog is so easy, I did not take it seriously until other bloggers started appreciating my work and following me ,Blogging has helped me learn so much in such a short time from other bloggers and from my own experiments. Every quiller has an unique style and bring something fresh to quilling which no one book can give. It is a great learning experience.

Quilled Daisies
What are the tools you use for Quilling.
There are so many new tools for quillers today, I used a slotted tool for rolling but my favorite is a needle tool. I use a needle tool for all my favorite projects.

3D Quilling
Of all your Quilling projects which one is your favorite and why.
My Quilled Durga is my most favorite, it was not easy but I am most happy with it. It is so far my biggest project.

What are the future projects you will be doing.
There are so many techniques which I am yet to try, I would like to do more quillography like my New year post.

What other then Quilling you love to do in your spare time.
I like to read books, sew, learn to crochet and story telling .

Please share the links where we can find your Art work and where my blog readers can get connected with you.
This is where I blog http://papercraftss.blogspot.in/, you can also find me on Facebook

Spring Flowers
Which blogs inspire you and you love to visit them regularly.
Ann Martin's http://www.allthingspaper.net/  is my greatest inspiration. Ann features great paper artists and she is also my quilling inspiration.

Last but not the least, as everyone dreams of being something in life, what you have dreamed of.
I dream of quilling big frame works. I love making quilled jewelry. I would love to grow in that direction .

Thank you Suganthi for being with us. I wish you all the best for your future and may all your wish come true. Now a request to my blog readers to visit Suganthi's lovely blog and shower your love by following and commenting.

Now time to show how I got inspired by Suganthi. Sharing image of quilled heart, more about this in my next post so stay tuned.
