Can you say - Salvage Yard?

I really Did It! I got to go to a real salvage place! You know, the kind you see on TV. The kind with all the cool stuff that you want to take home and transform for your home.

This one was found by my Hubby in St. Louis called Fellenz. It's full to the roof of architectural artifacts! This is what you see when you drive up. Iron gates that when peeked over, rows of fireplace mantels.

After seeing this photo

ever wonder,

"Who Are They?"

to all the pictures on the walls?

I am going to break it down for you! Some are family and some are not...Let's start with this numbered picture so you can follow along,

Arch Window Find!

You know the feeling...

    When you come upon something...

                      That takes your breath away.

When that happens...

I know that I have to let go of something....

I let go of this bookcase, because I have a gorgeous new French china hutch that is going to house my Great-Grandmother's china (to be seen in a later

Vintage Sewing Cabinet

Wow,

 I adore

how this

 transformation

 came out!

At a local estate auction right around the corner from my home, I picked up this sweet sewing cabinet for $5!

The top drawer pulls out as expected, but what was unexpected was the second drawer...It is on a swivel to expose an area for threads and needles.

The top had some damage which after fixing the veneer, made

What Is It?

At first glance I thought this was a vintage bird cage stand.

But it was so much taller than any I had ever seen or owned.

Then I read the raised lettering across the claw feet...

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Grand Rapids Dress Form Co.

I researched it and think it is a hanging dress form holder. For now, I have my wedding dress hung from it in honor of my 19th wedding anniversary

Three Tier Table Transformed

A new antique table has entered my life and invaded my living room! I fell in love with it upon first sight even though it didn't look it's best...

The best part, other than bringing it home and transforming it was it's price...at 70% off, Yeah! (Here you can see I was gluing the loose veneer back on when I took the before picture.)
I decided on Annie Sloan's Old White

Crazy Good Transformation!

This cabinet turned out crazy good and could be used for so many things.

A neighbor who knows that I transform furniture asked me if I would like to purchase this piece and do something fun with it.

Upon seeing it, I knew it would be more challenging than just painting it. But I was up for the task.

This is what it looked like when I bought it from her...

Someone had added the V

Federal Mirror Addition

Remember that vanity that I just transformed? No? Well let me remind you...

First of all, I went to an auction and I saw the same piece of furniture! It is not a lady's desk but a true vanity. The mirror was missing on mine! That question is solved! Or you can go HERE and see the post on this piece.
So, I remedied the missing mirror with this Federal Style one...

Yep, this ugly thing!

$50 Changes!

You are in for a real treat!

I am so excited to show you all the changes and you will see the domino effect of what $50 did in my home.

I will entice you to stay awhile by showing you the final outcome!

Okay, here is the back story...I went to an auction and spent $50 on this 6 1/2 foot buffet!

No, I didn't realize that it was that big!

It had so much character but had seen

Hepplewhite ShieldBack Chairs

Oh how ugly and worn out these chairs came into my possession!

But I have given it away on what I did to them, haven't I?

I didn't want to paint them because...

These chairs are Antique Hepplewhite Shield-back solid mahogany chairs!

But, I didn't want to strip them and one of the chairs had a broken shield back and I knew I couldn't fix it to where it wouldn't be noticed with

Solution to a Hole in my Vintage Tapestry!

Isn't it funny when you just can't think of a solution to a problem and someone walks up and gives it to you on a silver platter? In this case, I had picked up an old tapestry. The problem: a hole right in the middle of it. Too big to repair without notice. One day, my lovely daughter, Lisa says, "why don't you just cover a stool with it!"

I just happened to pick up this very old and very

My addiction to Furniture!

I am standing up and admitting that I have an addiction! But I am really sitting down.

An addiction to abused, beaten, broken and old furniture! Especially old stuff because it's usually all wood.

I don't need anymore.

I don't really want anymore. Um, maybe...

But, I can't help myself when I know what it could look like and keep it out of the landfill.

This is a good case in point. It

Fern Stand Table

I found a rather yucky fern stand with great lines and a cheap price...

$1,

so I knew that I couldn't pass it up.

This is the before picture...

Yucky right? Well, I did some painting & creating and this is the shabby outcome of my efforts!

Now, it's just a sweet bedside lamp table. After a new top, I painted black and white check on the inside only of the legs and added swirls

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Do people not have vision? Or do they just not like to do the work?

I don't know which, but I had picked up an antique oval mirror at a garage sale and basically did nothing to it, but put it in my antique mall booth.

No one wanted it after months of being displayed and a priced decline.

That told me that I needed to bring it home and give it some love! Here is the before

Old Settee Breathes New Life!

You probably didn't even miss me, but we have been gone to Vegas Baby!

If you are ever going and can catch a show, you should see Terry Fator! He won America's Got Talent in 2008 and puts on a really well done and funny show.

On with the Settee project...

Before we left, I was working like crazy on our new MUD ROOM that I will show you later, however for now, I will show you how I

Fun Kansas Finds!

We took a trip to Kansas to visit my son and two of my sisters. I thought I would share with you some of the fun pieces that we purchased on our trip. I fell in love with this blue bird platter and for only $1, I had to have it.

Sorry for the glare, I couldn't get a good photo and forgot to take a picture when I had it all apart cleaning it.

This old picture of twins stole my heart and I

The Rest Of The Story...on our Pillars!

As you may have read my previous, The Pillar Story...if not you can go HERE.

We have SEVEN vintage columns and enjoy every one of them.

That was until our Kansas trip!

My grown son lives in Kansas and we go out yearly for a visit. He knows our taste and surprised us with this...

Yes, four more, truly awesome pillars on stand bases, capitals and with globes!

A Pillar Story

We have a saying in our house, "If one is good then Moore is better."  Why?, because Moore is our last name and it seems that this trait runs in the family.

I have dreamed of having a column on each side of my fireplace in the living room. Then one day, while at a garage sale, we came across five columns that had come off a historic homes front porch and some given to this guy by friends. They
