Vastu Gyan: Guest Room Vastu

In Indian culture guests are always considered as God. Therefore you should follow the principles of vastu for guest room also. It ensures the happy, peaceful and short stay of the guests at home.

Best location for guest room is Northwest direction this corner represents air element that is considered as the most unstable and movable element. Guest bedroom in this direction will ensure short and happy stay of guests at home. Other option is South or Southeast direction.
Avoid Southwest direction for guest as it is reserved for master bedroom. Guest will dominate or interfere if the guest bedroom is in Southwest direction.
Color of the walls can be white, cream, soft pink or light blue.

There should not be any beam just above the bed. Always keep bed little far from the wall for proper air circulation. Avoid pacing bed directly in front of bathroom's door.
Windows in East and North direction is right option though it can be in West also but avoid South.
All the electric and electronic items should be in the Southeast direction, as it represents fire element.

Vastu Gyan: Dining Room Vastu

Dining room is a place where you have food with your family members and chat with them. This is the place where you entertain your guests also. So this place should be as pleasant as any other room in your house.
Dining room can be located in the east, south or west in the house but it should be close to the kitchen or in continuation with the kitchen. It will be easy to serve hot food if dining room is close to the kitchen.
Color of the dining room's wall can be orange, pink, green, cream, saffron or yellow as these colors are considered as appetite stimulator. Light colors can make place look brighter and bigger.

Furniture i.e dining table should be rectangular, square or can be round in shape but avoid irregular shapes since you need enough space to sit and have food comfortably. Table should be clutter free and beautifully decorated. Table should be placed in the center of the room for free movement.

While eating food one should keep in mind that head of the family should face east and other members can face east, north or west but avoid facing south. It has a scientific reason that if you face south then Earth's magnetic north pole and body's magnetic north pole repel and one can feel restlessness.

Dining room should never face the entrance of the house as it distracts your mind if visitors come while having food and also some people feel uncomfortable. There should never be toilet or bathroom near dining room as bad odor can spoil your dining experience.

Lastly put up some calming paintings and portraits for stress free and pleasurable dining experience.

Hope these few tips will help you creating stress free and comfortable atmosphere for dining.

Vastu Gyan: Living Room Vastu

Vastu creates a harmonious balance and linkage with nature to attract favorable effects of Sun and other planets. Vastu balances the various energies in environment to ensure good and stable mental & physical health. The size and cost of the house doesn't matter in vastu rather impact of various energy fields and natural forces from different directions is more important.
Living room is the heart of a house. Its the place where you spend time with your family and entertain your guests. Best direction for living room should be north-east or east but it depends on the direction house faces. For north or east facing house living room should be in north-east. For a south facing house it can be in south-east. For west facing house living room can be in north-west direction.

Color of the walls in living room should be light. White, cream, yellow, orange, green, blue all in lighter shade can be a good option. Light colors brighten up the space and make it appear larger as well.

Placement of furniture in living room should be in south-west and west direction. Owner of the house should always sit in south-west or west direction facing either north-east or east. Reason is that sun rays and fresh air from east and north direction ensures positivity. Furniture should be rectangular or square and there is always some space left between wall and furniture to ensure the free flow of air. Placement of furniture should be done in a way that it should appear uncluttered and allows free movement of the dwellers. Avoid seating area under a beam as it can increase your stress. Better idea is to conceal the beam with false ceiling.

All the electronic and electrical gadgets should draw power from socket placed in east or south-east direction. T.V should be placed in a direction in such a way that viewer should face east or north direction. AC, cooler should be placed in west direction as west of the house becomes hot during the day. Fireplace all  things related to fire or heat should be placed in south-east direction as this direction represents Agni or Fire element.

As they say 'We become what we behold'. Paintings we put up in living room evoke strong sentiments. Thus keep in mind that paintings should always be calming, positive and uplifting. Picture of Sun or nature should be hung on east wall, painting of waterfall on the north wall and painting that denotes strength like horses, mountain or elephants should be hung on south or west wall. Always avoid paintings that depict war, sadness, violence, death or has negative impact on our life.

Make your living room a stress free zone and relaxing space by following these simple rules of vastu. With a little care in the relative positioning of different things in a room one could expect to live a peaceful, happy and prosperous life.

Vastu Gyan: Kitchen Vastu

Kitchen is the most important entity in the house. It is referred to as the treasure of the house in some Chinese scriptures.
This is the only prominent place where fire element plays a key role. In vastu shashtra the principle direction of natural energy field of fire is Southeast. Hence the ideal location for kitchen is southeast. A visible advantage of having the kitchen in the southeast is that it is open to the positive effects of morning sun rays and also gets fresh air most of the time.

Cooking gas should always be placed in southeast direction of the kitchen. As this direction is also referred as having the place of the Goddess of food. One should face east while cooking food.
Windows in the kitchen should be in east and ideal location for door is northeast, east or north to allow the natural light and fresh air through out the day.

Color of the kitchen walls can be green, soft pink, orange, brown or yellow. As these colors are considered as appetite stimulator.
All the equipment like microwave, electric oven , toaster etc should be placed in south or southeast direction. refrigerator should be placed either in northwest or southwest direction. Empty gas cylinders should be placed in southwest.  Exhaust fan should be in east direction as all the cooking is done in this direction. Grain pulses and spices must be stored in the west or in the south direction.
The ideal location for sink and drinking water storage is northeast corner as this direction gets maximum morning UV rays that kill the germs.
There should not be a common wall between toilet and kitchen. Kitchen should not be constructed in front of a bathroom, bedroom or worship room.

One need not panic if it is not possible to follow some or even none of the guidelines provided in the Vastu Shashtra as vastu principles and effects are only secondary to one's inner strength and endeavor toward soul growth.

Vastu Gyan: Entryway/Foyer or Main Door Vastu

Entryway/Foyer and main door are the first thing anybody will going to see while entering your house. The visual beauty of the main door is of supreme importance in Vastu. Decorating and painting the door with bright colors can inspire positive emotions upon entering the home. Main door in east or north-east is considered to be auspicious as it brings sunlight (Flow of energy/prana into your home. There should be no door exactly opposite the main door. There should be no obstruction in front of the main door. The shutters of the door should always open up inside of the house. Main entrance door should be the largest door of the house.

Vastu recommends clean, free of extraneous material and uncluttered entryway. Keep entrance of your house always welcoming, well maintained and decorated to welcome divine. Keeping pot of healthy plants either side of the main door is a good practice. You can keep potpourri, good pictures, fresh flowers, candles/lamps, plants and urns in your foyer to welcome your guest and to bring in lot of positiveness.
So entrance of your house is like mouth, keep it clean, brushed and flossed in the same manner.

Vastu Gyan: Introduction

Vastu Gyan (Knowledge Of Vastu) is a new series that I am adding to my blog for all my blog readers out there. This series is my endeavour to make Vastu bit simpler than what its in present days. Many fake experts and those having half cooked knowledge have made it a business to dupe the gullible masses. Deep study of the teachings of Vastu Shastra has therefore become very important and relevant today. Besides design & decor knowledge of Vastu is also very important to transform our home into a peaceful place.

Our life is sensitive to not only the ambience around but also the structure and design of residence we live in.The science that deals with the knowledge of architecture, interior and exterior design of residence is known as Vastu Shastra. There is no point if someone believes in this ancient science or not, there are lot of examples are present around us, many of the ancient temples, monuments built according to vastu shastra are still existing and standing tall against all odds.
According to 'Vrahad Vastumala' - a scripture of Vastu Shastra says-
" House(Home) is that which offers the worldly joys of having a family, keeping pets, cattle, etc; which protects from cold, heat, storms and other external hazards and which facilitates the proper performance of dharma (righteous duties), artha (attainment of wealth/material power and progress) and kama (fulfillment of desires).
