I'm taking a stand!

I may love, love, love your blog, but if you have word verification that has become harder to read, that needs to be retyped just to get my comment though,

I just can't do it anymore.
Does that mean I am getting poor eye site? I have new glasses. Am I getting cranky in my older age, maybe.

So I want all the blogs I visit that have word verification turned on to know that even though I don't

Beaded Spoon Tassels

A new twist on what to do with old silver spoons.

I made Painted, Beaded, Tassel Decor out of them.

They are fun and unique.

This is not a tutorial

but instead, the process

that I went through to get to the final product.

First, I took an old silver spoon (I find these for pennies at garage sales and thrift stores)...I drilled tiny holes around the edge of the spoon and painted it (them)

Diaper Motorcycle!

I had an appointment with my chiropractor on Valentine's Day...

Right when I walked in, one of the office ladies told me that their other office lady had just given birth to a baby boy! This is her first and she had been at the hospital for 23 hours!

Finally, little 8 pound Johnny was here and both are doing well.

Then, the office lady told me that they were going to have a diaper shower and

New Red Toile Valances

I finally made my new valances and they came out pretty good, if I don't say so myself.

Did you know that I adore Toile...any Toile?

But before we look at them further, let's review...

In the kitchen window, I made these valances that seem very popular with my blog viewers. I made up this design and just 'winged it' as I went along.

I love the look of these with the rod and rings.

The DEETS of The Master Bedroom Mini-Makeover

Happy Saturday, friends!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments about our "refreshed, yet not done" master bedroom ... I truly, truly appreciate each and every note you shared!  As promised, I'm sharing the details of elements I used for our mini-makeover:

And, I apologize in advance because, not only am I sharing the same pictures as my last post, BUT, I'm also sharing a little video (don't laugh)! Please forgive the sound quality (that's what happens when you spill hot tea on your keyboard) and that, apparently, I have two black eyes ... yikes!

I know, I know ... you're still laughing at my big hair crazy self, aren't you?  LOL ... I am, too!

Okay, back to the *deets* ...

The paint products I used are:

Walls: BM White Sand
Trey: BM Palladian Blue
Ceiling: BM Ballet White

The white down comforter and matching duvet are from IKEA (last summer), and, the "Dream" pillow is from SteinMart.  The bedskirt is made from budget-friendly dropcloth!

The nightstands used to have the same finish as the bed, but, AS Old White chalk paint took over and, voila:

At the foot of the bed is the bench that normally sits in our dining room.  It used to have a cherry stain, but, last Spring, I painted it BM White Dove, followed by distressing/glazing/waxing.  I also recovered the seat in burlap:

The mirrored chest used to be in our sitting room. Isn't it fun to *shop* your own home for *fer-ee* ?! And, the slipcovers on the parson chairs are from SureFit (on sale):

The window treatments were made by me (*cough*) ... and, like I said in my video, I'm a cheater when it comes to decorating! Let's just say that there were a lot of straight pins involved in making these! Adding metal scrollies in between the curtain rod and top of your window is a fun way to fill in a bit:

As for the dresser ... this used to be on the wall where the armoire is now ... it's amazing what a big difference a little change can make! (The "Always Kiss Me Goodnight" sign is from my fave, Home Goods.)

The lamps *used* be red with flowers on them. Last year, I painted them Stratton Blue, but then, recently, added a coat of AS Duck Egg Blue. Such an easy way to make a fun change (and, yes, look at my cutie patootie who is about to turn six ... where does the time go?):

The pink wreath layered over the mirror above our bed is a recent 40% off (yippee) purchase from Michael's.  I love adding a soft, contrasting pop of color to our spaces:

As for the little blue plate above the amoire, if you're *really* lucky (NOT), I'll post a video on how I made it.  LOL

That's all for now, friends ... thanks again so very much for all of your thoughtful comments.

Happy decorating and have a fabulous day!

Second to None Flea Market, Bangalore.

I have long nurtured a child-like dream, to save the world.
...but how? The answer remained ambiguous.

Strong emotions surged in my throat when I heard casual remarks like, "Look at that road so dirty! There is garbage everywhere, why isn't someone doing something about it."

Last summer those emotions got channelized into a tiny endeavor when a friend gently nudged me towards the idea of composting at home. Composting one's own kitchen waste and converting it into a soil enricher for one's own garden and thereby reducing the garbage that goes out of house completely appealed to me.
I wanted to be that someone doing something about it.

Composting gradually changed my perspective on waste management specifically and life in general. It made me alive to simple facts of living. Living a more meaningful life by going natural, going organic, evaluating eco-friendly options, reducing what goes out of the house, recycling and reusing.

When I first heard about Second to None {220} in June last year, it completely echoed with the ideals I believed in.
second7
Second to None {220} is an initiative started in the form of a Facebook group by Anu Gummaraju, Reena Chengappa and Shilpa Kamath Prabhu. A platform to promote the idea of recycling, a space for like-minded people to interact, share recycling ideas, buy and sell used goods.

The online initiative soon took the form of Second to None Flea Markets at Jaaga (a space which lends itself perfectly to the cause.)

There was something to enjoy for everyone who came...

.....and something to learn.

I picked up few lovely things from the Flea Market for my home but most of all I came back energized by the fact that there were so many individuals who believed in recycling and reusing and were doing their bit for the world.

Let's all become that someone doing something about our world in our own unique way!
