Whimsical Christmas Kitchen ...

I like to keep things fun and whimsical in the kitchen each year!  So, feel free to take a peek around:

I've added this tree to our island for the past few years ... I always love adding a bit of the unexpected ... too bad the middle section of lights *just* went out ... bummer!

I dressed the tree in lots of gingerbread ornaments, cookie cutters, Christmas note cards and other whimsical ornaments:

Little elves are scattered about ... this little cutie climbed up on the ladder and helped me decorate the tree:

This little elf is perched on top of a canister filled with snow and ornaments!  The other canisters hold inexpensive candy canes and sweet treats!

And, *this* little Elf is taking a bath in more sweet treats!

I LOVED being able to add Christmas whimsy to the shelves that I made this past Fall!

I'm big on adding things in kitchen canisters OTHER than sugar and flour! Adding inexpensive cookie cutters is a fun way to add Christmas color to any kitchen!

This simple vignette sits on the counter below:

On the other side of the kitchen, I added red trees, garland, oversized snowflakes and a chalkboard to the soffit:

And, down below, I have one of my most favorite pictures ... Jax (when he was 3) taking a walk with Santa.  Still makes me tear up when I pull it out of the box every year.

Finally~Our Tree!

Better late than never is such a great saying~
and this case it applies to our Christmas Tree. 

 We finally got the tree up this weekend, 

and it was Sunday afternoon, not Saturday like we thought because 

we had a hockey game for the little one and then

 he was performing in a kids theatre production 

with two shows on Saturday at 3 and 6 pm.  

By the time we rolled in the door after 8 

there wasn't much enthusiasm for putting up the tree.

 Then came Sunday morning.... 

we had waited to have Colin home from school

 and time it with our little guy being here too to put up the tree,

 but now  they both had homework to take care

 of before we could decorate the tree.  

It seemed like one delay after another. 

Would the tree ever get up? 

 While they worked side by side at the dining room table,

( which really was a cute sight after not having them here together for months~)

I got busy making a corn chowder I found on Susan Branch's blog.

She is a famous cookbook author and she lives on Martha's Vineyard~

the same place where my parents live. 

Her blog is on my sidebar if you would like to visit her.

Yum~anything cooked with bacon is always good, right? 

The weather was finally getting cold, and the 

corn chowder would make a nice lunch after we finished the tree. 

Yes!! It did get up!!

 So come on into the living room and check it out.

Everyone helped piling on the ornaments with no plan, 

just me telling them to not put the same colors side by side. 

 Honestly, I was just happy it was decorated!!

 More vintage ornaments joined the party on the living room chandelier too.

 Woah~it is the time of year that this room

feels like it has shrunk a size or two.  

There won't be any dancing in this room!

And since we have a Christmas Eve party,

I have to have as much seating as possible

 so I squeeze in chairs where ever I can.

 Pink trees and putz houses and vintage balls decorate the piano corner~

 The dining room chest has the feather tree on it with

 the same pinks and blues used throughout the living room.

 I save all of my favorite christmas cards and use them for decorations each year.

 They are seasonal works of art.

Christmas Sneak Peek!

Sure it's started looking a lot like Christmas......why not its only a week away. Finally my Christmas tree is also up....not that big one rather its a tiny one made out of something that you can't even think of.

Actually I've never ever celebrated Christmas in this way like decorating tree and making wreaths but this time I wanted to let my kid know that how diverse is our Indian culture, how colourful and bright is every festival here and how people from different casts and religion come together and celebrate every festival with great enthusiasm. :-)

My lil' one is also very keen to know about different countries and their culture. So I involved him in process that's going on in my home for Christmas, from making wreath to decorating tree he helped me out. Now he has started dreaming about gift he will going to recieve from Santa who will come riding his sleigh with all that Tinga-linga-ling & ho ho ho on Christmas night.

Well here's what my lil' one and I did for Christmas.............

Wreath made of paper Quilling and beans........

Tree made out of used broom (pardon me). We coloured it green then glued red beans and silver glitter. Filled a pot with silver bolls made of foil and placed tree in it.
